Where the Red Fern Grows Comprehension Tests check for a basic understanding of the story.  The CCSS Quizzes, on the other hand, require analytical and critical thinking.

First, a series of objective-style (multiple choice, true/false, yes/no, fill in the blank) comprehension tests check for factual knowledge. The questions cover the novel as chapter-by-chapter quizzes and as well as a whole book test.
In addition to their function as tests, these quizzes are useful as homework reading guides, small-group and independent reading guides.

In the second portion, chapter-by-chapter quizzes and a whole book quiz challenge students to engage in critical thinking and story analysis. The questions are a combination of multiple choice, short answer, sequencing, etc.  Each printable worksheet includes a writing challenge.
