Description
Pigs Is Pigs by Ellis Parker Butler
A Short Story Study Guide by Margaret Whisnant
Treat your students to this rib-tickling story about a stubborn station master, an equally stubborn customer, and two guinea pigs with opportunity to be themselves. The results are a hilarious venture into the law of increasing numbers.
Pigs Is Pigs is a personal favorite. I used it as a fun read-aloud in my classroom for years. I was delighted to learn that the story was older than I thought and in public domain. It made its debut in the September 1905 edition of American Illustrated Magazine. Star Trek fans will be interested to know that this short story inspired the episode titled “The Trouble with Tribbles.”
